Massage Curriculum: 550/600 Hours
Business-27 hours/Ethics 8 hours
This course covers all topics related to our commitment to professionalism. The students learn how to make ethical decisions and how important that is to their careers. We cover licensing, insurance, marketing, business plans, loans, regulations, etc. We study record keeping, assessment forms, massage/spa software, and SOAP notes. We discuss sanitation, client relations, and maintaining appropriate boundaries. We pinpoint ways to help our students manage the mental and physical challenges of being a massage therapist.
Massage Theory & Practice-200 hours
This course begins with the study of the vast history of massage. It is here that students begin to learn the basic principles and fundamentals of massage therapy. You properly prepare how to create a positive massage environment and how to properly prepare your client including draping and positioning. We then learn good body mechanics to protect your own health. We study the physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits of massage therapy on the client and the practitioner. We then learn Oriental theory, Chair Massage, Senior, Swedish, Pregnancy, and Deep Tissue Massage, and Myofascial Release.
Anatomy & Physiology-125 hours
Our A & P course is very thorough and demanding, but this knowledge is mandatory for safe and effective massage. We begin with the study of cells, tissues, organs, and systems. The more in depth coverage comes with the skeletal and musculoskeletal systems. We also study the circulatory, respiratory, digestive/excretory, nervous, and glandular systems of the body.
Pathology/Contraindications-40 hours
It is important for massage therapists to have a working knowledge of the illness and disease they will sometimes be faced with. Several hours are devoted to AIDS/HIV education. This course teaches you to identify-not diagnose common problems, and help you to determine when massage therapy is not an appropriate treatment. Students also become certified in CPR.
Allied Modalities-120/170 hours
In this course we explore many different forms of massage therapy. We study postural analysis, Neuromuscular Therapy, Active Isolated Stretching, Orthopedic Massage, Japanese Restorative Therapy, Aromatherapy, and Reflexology. We spend approximately 20 hours on hydrotherapy and spa treatments, which are practiced such as body wraps and hot stone massage. Students of the 600 hour course also attend introduction classes in Meditation and Energy work, such as Healing Touch, Reiki, Qigong, Polarity, Cranial Sacral and Yoga. The 600 hour class ends with an eight hour review session for licensing exams.
Student Clinics-50 hours
This course allows you to put all of your knowledge into practice. Our students have the opportunity to complete 50 supervised massages on clients that the school provides for you. During these hours you practice your client assessment skills, massage techniques, body mechanics, and overall professionalism. Much of this course takes place outside of normal class time and it is the most important and rewarding segment of your massage education.
